Row for the Cure Partnership
We are very disappointed to share that Vancouver Lake continues to be challenged by warm summer temperatures – significantly lower-than-usual water level, excessive milfoil and pools of dead fish. All of these challenges compromise the safety of participants and the experience at the event. The event must be cancelled for this fall, and we are working with the committee to secure a solid date in April, May or June. All registrations and fundraising will roll forward to the new date.
Instead, we will have a casual celebration at Station L Rowing Club on Sunday morning, 10 am-12pm to honor the 25th anniversary and Kathy Frederick’s leadership of Row for the Cure. Along with Kathy, we will celebrate Janna Brown for engaging dragon boat teams and her retirement. Please know an electronic invitation is coming today.
Partners at Row for the Cure make a positive impact on the fight against breast cancer – and involve their employees and consumers in the cause! Together, they have created an exciting day of activity on and off the water. Participants from Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California will bring their watercraft for great competition, then relaxation and a party.
Susan G. Komen® Oregon & SW Washington began in 1991 by three survivors. Komen has been providing funding for services, programs and research to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
We fight because 63 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed, and 11 people will lose their battle every week right here. The Race brings together community and raises dollars for those who need services most in our communities.
Our Bold Goal is to forward progress, and address these rates. It aims to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths in the U.S. by 50 percent in the next decade. We are rallying supporters to take the next step with us – make a bigger, bolder impact and be More Than Pink.
With your support, we will meet this bold goal by creating new ways to detect breast cancer earlier, funding projects which drive down health disparities among women, and targeting research on metastatic breast cancer.
