Metastatic Breast Cancer Dinner Series

The Metastatic Breast Cancer Dinner Series provides a forum for people living with metastatic breast cancer to discuss the latest in research, treatment, and symptom management with local health experts, in a small group setting.  Dinner is free, and registration is available to people living with stage IV/ metastatic breast cancer and, if space is available, their caregiver.  Pre-registration is mandatory.

If you are unable to attend Dinner Series events in person, we will live-stream the presentation on our Facebook page (@KomenOregon). Individuals watching via the Facebook live video will be able to ask questions in the comments section, and they will be answered at the end of the speaker’s presentation.

About the presentation and our speaker:

Participants will receive an overview of the emotional impact of metastatic breast cancer on the person with cancer and their family.  They’ll be be given resources for the practical challenges of cancer.  Financial toxicity will be discussed, along with its impact on those with cancer.  Bring your questions about end of life planning and advanced directives.

Krista Nelson, LCSW OSW-C BCD FAOSW is trained as an oncology social worker and works in clinical, research, and program management roles within Providence Health and Services. Krista most recently joined the Compassion Team as a Program Manager, and has appreciated bringing her clinical expertise to work on creating supportive infusions of compassion to caregivers.

She provides individual support as well as group support for those affected with cancer and facilitates an online support group for women with metastatic cancer and runs a program for children with a parent with cancer.

August 3, 2019 Summer Social – Register Now!

Join us for yoga and a summer social!  We’ll start with a talk about how yoga and meditation can be beneficial when living with metastatic breast cancer, before learning some gentle movements and guided meditation.  Afterwards, we’ll gather for a picnic-style lunch for some social / get-to-know-you time.  Families are welcome.  Registration by July 29th is required.

What to bring: Bring a yoga mat, if you have one.  If you do not have one, we’ll provide one for you.

Travel Assistance:

Thanks to a grant from Pfizer, need-based financial assistance is available to individuals living with metastatic breast cancer, to cover the cost of transportation and/or lodging  to attend Komen Oregon & SW Washington metastatic breast cancer education events.  Assistance will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.  If a large number of individuals request travel assistance, priority will be given to those who have not received prior assistance through a travel grant, and individuals travelling the furthest distance.  Download the application for additional details.
