Susan G. Komen Oregon and SW Washington is the local resource for women who need assistance with breast cancer screening, diagnostic, treatment, and support services. Through annual events including the Race for the Cure and individual contributions, we raise funds that support our programs in our service area (all 36 counties in Oregon, and Clark, Cowlitz, and Skamania counties in Washington).
Seventy-five percent of all funds raised by the Affiliate stay in our service area to fund breast health programs for women who would not otherwise have access to screening and treatment. Twenty-five percent of funds raised supports the Susan G. Komen® Grants Program. Komen Oregon and SW Washington has contributed more than $19.5 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in our 39 county service area.
Every four years, Komen Oregon and SW Washington conducts a community needs assessment. This report, called the Community Profile, provides quantitative and qualitative assessments of breast health and cancer needs, and the resources that exist to meet those needs throughout our service area. It is a tool that guides our program priorities, ensuring that patient needs are being met. It also outlines areas where additional education and services are required to reduce the breast cancer burden for specific populations.
Four priorities drive the development of a date-driven Mission Action Plan so that the Affiliate’s community outreach, grantmaking and public policy activities are impacting the same Promise- saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. We believe that where a women lives should not determine whether she lives.
Our four priorities are early detection, survivor and fighter support, advocacy, and research.
