Purpose: To uplift the African American professional community regarding breast cancer awareness, research, and volunteerism in collaboration with the platform of Miss Black Oregon US Ambassador ‘19.
Why now? As the PNW region is vastly growing with African American professionals exiting college and entering into their careers, it is important they are educated around the healthcare issues plaguing the community, giving them the opportunity to donate and volunteer for the cause. Also, it is imperative that they encourage their family members to receive regular screenings and participate in clinical research trials.
Afrodite: This theme is a play on words uplifting the African American woman, breast cancer survivor/forever fighter, and professional as a supreme being involved in the fight against this healthcare issue in the African American community. Aphrodite is an ancient Greek goddess associated with love, beauty, pleasure, passion, and procreation. With this theme, we will send the message that learning about the educational foundations of breast cancer awareness is of love, beauty, pleasure, passion for African American women who are stigmatized to walk in strength and fear, connecting with education, research, and care coordination. It emphasizes the beauty behind every woman’s journey.
Registration: Register NOW to attend Afrodite!
