Originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, Maria has spent the past 29 years in the United States.
At 47 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Since being diagnosed over a year ago, Maria shows her kids how much they mean to her. A day doesn’t go by without gratitude for what she has.
Maria says her daughter, Blanca, has been very involved since her diagnosis. Blanca, a member of Susan G. Komen’s Latina Council, would help her mom in any way she could – calling doctors, translating medical information, and asking any & all questions. Maria is very thankful to have had Blanca every step of the way.
Maria has learned so much since her diagnosis, her faith in God being the most important to her. This attitude and practice helped her draw the strength and courage to overcome adversity.
Maria advises anyone going through their own breast cancer journey to “never give up and continue to fight.” Speaking from her own accomplishments, she says, “have faith and follow God, for it will strengthen you.”
Surrounded by positive family and friends, Maria is “always thankful.” Since being ‘cancer-free’, Maria says she’s closer with her family, God, and friends now more than ever. These relationships have encouraged Maria to keep moving forward. She is living her life to the fullest with a passion to help her kids and stay cancer free.
